"[[Jeff Bezos]] famously **proposed the wacky idea of “two-pizza teams,”** which was the philosophy behind a complete reorganization of the company. The way this story is told is that one day a manager off-site complained about how hard it was to stay up-to-date with all the other teams and suggested coming up with a better communication framework. **Jeff Bezos’s response was “No! Communication is terrible!” and he went on to invent the “two-pizza team.” If there are eight slices per pizza, and people eat one to three slices each, it really keeps the teams in the eight-to-ten-person range. This size cap encouraged deep and flowing conversations at the team level, while discouraging it between teams—and despite incredible skepticism from pretty much everyone at the time, it worked.** By taking advantage of the small-table dynamics, teams were encouraged to do everything they needed to do without being blocked by other teams. They would also be expected to resolve their own problems as they came up, without slowing everyone else down by having a lot of meetings."
